Perhaps one of the busiest offices at the Department of Justice is the Office of the Pardon Attorney. Here is the list of pardons and grants of clemency since January 2025 – here. Some observations about these recent pardons and clemency grants:
- Some of the initial pardons in 2025 related to charges involving the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act (FACE Act) and charges related to the January 6th United States Capitol attack.
- Some of the pardons and clemency grants in the 2025 list involve drug related offenses.
- In recent months, however, many of the pardons relate to white collar offenses.
- Some of the alleged white collar crimes that individuals received pardons or clemency for are: wire fraud, Violations of the Foreign Agents Registration Act, tax evasion, Conspiracy to commit bribery, Theft of government property, Conspiracy to commit securities fraud; securities fraud, Conspiracy to defraud the United States, Conspiracy to commit bank fraud, Conspiracy to commit health care fraud, Conspiracy to commit bribery concerning programs receiving Federal funds, honest services mail fraud, etc.
- The most recent pardon relates to alleged crimes related to crypto – See Dan Mangan & Kevin Breuninger, Trump pardons convicted Binance founder Changpeng Zhao (CNBC News); Declan Harty, Trump pardons crypto billionaire Changpeng Zhao (Politico).
